TNT Summer Premiere: Saving Grace

After watching just three episodes (last season’s finale and two new episodes) of Saving Grace I have realized how underrated TNT used to be in my eyes. As a lover of crime and medical dramas, I could be very happy with TNT being one of my favorite networks. With Saving Grace, Hawthrorne, and The Closer alone, there is plenty going on and it’s all wrapped up in a well written, phenomenally acted set of storylines.

Starring Holly Hunter as the title character, Grace Hanadarko, Saving Grace is just beginning season three of an already amazing run. Hunter plays the role of Grace, a brash and gutsy Oklahoma City Detective that happens to have an angel watching over her. Hunter stars with an amazing ensemble cast, including Bailey Chase, Kenneth Johnson, Lorraine Toussaint, Gregory Cruz, Yanni King, Dylan Minnette, and Laura San Giacomo. Needless to say, it would be hard to come up with such an amazing cast and it shows in every performance.

TNT Summer Premiere: Hawthorne

I love a good medical drama. From ER to Grey’s Anatomy, I have been watching these types of shows for over a decade and when they are good, you can make an instant fan out of me. So, when I heard that TNT was going to be offering a new medical drama, with the highly talented (and often underrated) Jada Pinkett Smith, I couldn’t wait to see it. The result of the show is Hawthorne, and it’s set to be one of the most popular shows of the summer without a doubt!

In the first minutes of the show we are introduced to Christina Hawthorne, the Chief Nursing Officer at Trinity Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. She is headstrong and opinionated, but you would be hard-pressed to find a better nurse, and that is obvious from the minute the show begins. Hawthorne is a widow that lost her husband to cancer, one year from the day that the show begins. She is the mother to a headstrong teenage girl and she is a nurse that cares about everyone that comes into her hospital, no matter how big or small they are.

In each episode, like in other medical dramas, you will come in contact with a variety of patients and people in the hospital. The staff and supporting cast that you will see on a regular basis include Dr. Tom Wakefield (Michael Vartan), Nurse Ray Stein (David Julian Hirsh), Nurse Candy Sullivan (Christina Moore), and Nurse (and Hawthorne’s best friend) Bobby Jackson (Suleka Mathew). You will also get to know Camille (Hannah Hodson), Hawthorne’s daughter and her mother in law, Amanda (Joanna Cassidy).

TNT Summer Premiere: Wedding Day

Wedding Day Screenshot 1

I don’t normally watch too much reality television, though I know that it’s pretty popular these days. I just can’t handle the catty, unrealistic nature of the average reality show. However, every once in a while there are those shows that make sure that they reward people that truly deserve something good to happen to them. In the case of Wedding Day, couples are nominated by family and friends to get a dream wedding after going through more than the average married couple might have been through together.

The premiere episode is centered around Holli and Steve, a couple that live not too far from where I do, in Michigan. Holli and Steve were set to be married in 2007 and just four days before they were able to say “I Do,” Holli was in a car accident that left her in a coma for six days. During that time, Steve sat in her hospital room, never leaving her side. In fact, that is where he spent their first wedding day; alone in her hospital room with her.

After Holli woke up she couldn’t work, so Steve nursed her back to health while she was in a wheelchair for six months. They are just now getting back to where they are going to be able to think about a wedding, so it’s an amazing surprise to know that the hosts of Wedding Day are in town to surprise them with the wedding of their dreams!
