Music can delight the soul and under the right circumstances it can make the ears bleed. 2012 had a number of eye opening musical moments. I found a song I love by a singer I hate, I listened to enough popular “music” to wonder what happened to music, and I found that I am hopeless when it comes to watching musical talent shows, even if only to complain. So, as the year draws to a close, we put on our critic hats, pulled up the most popular songs of the year and compiled a list of the ones that we felt were the best and the worst. This list is dedicated to the songs that should have never been sung in 2012. These are by far the Worst Songs of 2012.
12. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together – Taylor Swift
If Taylor Swift managed to be the least offensive song of the year, you should have a pretty good guess that we’re all in trouble. I can only hope 2013 improves or a lot of “singers” and “musicians” end up getting permanent laryngitis. Swift’s latest breakup opus about her boyfriend and how they are never, ever, ever getting back together is like most of her music. Trite. Boring. Poorly written. I will say one thing though. I laugh endlessly every time I hear her sing the line…”And you, will hide away and find your piece of mind with some indie record that’s much cooler than mine.”
Silly Taylor Swift. It doesn’t take much for that illusive record to be cooler than yours.
