I have a love/hate relationship with television. Some shows make me so happy and some people on television make me want to hurl. It’s been a hard road for me since Reality television has become so popular. If I wanted edited, rehearsed bits of “reality” I would go live life. Of course, those would actually be reality because I would not have an editing team behind me offering the best and worst bits of my real day, but I digress. My original point was that there are a lot of things and people on television that drive me insane.
I couldn’t possibly focus on all of the people and things because all of you fine people reading this might think that I don’t like people in general. I like people just fine, but these people have the ability to make me want to jump off a cliff assuming I only had one channel and they were on it.
Kate Gosselin – In general I avoid TLC merely because Kate is a part of their network. I know plenty of people that don’t like Kate, but my feelings for her cannot be described in simple terms. I loathe her. I applauded Jon for cheating on her, though I still think this was all to get them both some publicity and before you know it they will be buddies, or more, again. This woman is toxic. She’s a wannabe celebrity, drama queen, with absolutely no talent. People love to hate her, but they need to love to make her go away, and the only way that can be done is if people stop paying her paycheck by watching the crap she spews out for TLC.
The View minus Whoopi – Whenever I think of The View, I become annoyed because I remember when the show first came out and the goal was to represent the viewpoints of women. They had a group of different women discussing topics and interviewing people. The format is still pretty similar, though the feminine pool has certainly gotten some fungal infections along the way.
My main problems here are Sherri Shepherd and Elizabeth Hasselbeck, or as I like to call them, the moron and the breeder. Sherri is just beyond uneducated and Hasselbeck seems to be conservative, because it’s the cool thing to do. Of course, she has to hold the torch on the show. After all, if she wasn’t an overbearing Christian conservative then they would need to find someone to take her place. In any case, both of them represent only a limited view of the American woman. I’d like to think that most of us are smarter and have a more efficient use of Google than these two winners.
As for Joy Behar. Well, my only beef with her is that she is far more entertaining on her own show. On The View she comes off, at times, as a bitter old hag. She’s far more likeable on The Joy Behar Show. Go figure. I guess it’s all about different faces for different places.
Brooke Anderson – I should begin this by saying that my mother falls asleep with her television on CNN Headline News every night. In the late night hours they play Showbiz Tonight a lot. This means that I hear a lot of what AJ Hammer and Brooke Anderson have to say. I will admit I do not watch this show of my own volition. I hear it because it’s on in the other room. That being said, I have gained a seething distaste for Anderson thanks to hearing her voice so much. I think the thing that annoys me the most is her perky, but overly sanctimonious attitude. We seem to disagree about nearly everything, especially her support for Kate Gosselin over Jon (the only people anyone should be supporting is those kids). The only people that could annoy me more on that frivolous show is the guests that all have horrid opinions and don’t seem to ever use facts. I guess they call it gossip for a reason.

Glenn Beck – Let’s just start with the obvious. I don’t care that Glenn is an alcoholic (recovering?!?), or a former smackhead. People make mistakes in life. It’s the whole, born again Mormon (Seriously…), uber-Conservative, uneducated, hate-filled rhetoric that he spews that gets on my nerves. I cannot handle someone that doesn’t think at all before they speak. I was introduced to Beck when he was tamer due to his placement on CNN. Now that he’s on Faux News he is an amped up Nazi-loving, hate-monger. If he really wants to be racial, prejudice, and divide the nation that’s fine, but could he at least Google his facts before he distorts them? Is that too much to ask?
Kara Dioguardi – There could be a million reasons why I can’t stand Kara. Let’s see. Her advice is trite and usually fails to help anyone. She’s unqualified as a judge because she could not launch her own music career. If you are there saying you have no talent other than experience and a good ear that’s one thing (a la Simon), but if you’re trying to show contestants up by singing the notes that you claim they got wrong then you need to be able to hit the notes. Kara often doesn’t. I won’t get into her wannabe WILF (woman I’d like to fuck…hey, she’s not a mom) attitude or the way she swings her head like she’s a bobblehead.
I won’t comment on her contradictory advice or make fun of her turkey neck. I will just say that she is one of the worst parts of American Idol. I fear for the show once Simon leaves. Lord knows, he’s the only worthwhile judge on that show. Kara being there with no Simon will certainly drag the show down even further. I suppose what they say is true. All good things must come to an end. My only consolation is that when it does, she will be going with it.
So, I shared mine. Now it’s time to tell me who you can’t stand on television!

I DON’T KNOW ABOUT THE REST,,,BUT EVERYTIME SHERRI OPENS HER STUPID MOUTH I WANT TO SMACK HER UPSIDE HER HEAD.
Thank you, Ashton, for so accurately rendering Brooke Anderson. I agree with you totally. Her sanctimonious twaddle is unnerving. Plus, I think she’s got a speech impediment because it often sounds like she’s got marbles in her mouth. Or maybe it’s just her low-level brain that hasn’t fully developed.
Sorry, that should have been “Ashtyn.”
