The Nominees:

Neill Blomkamp, Terri Tatchell – District 9
Mark Boal – The Hurt Locker
Quentin Tarantino – Inglourious Basterds
Nancy Meyers – It’s Complicated
Jason Reitman, Sheldon Turner – Up In The Air

The Winners: Jason Reitman, Sheldon Turner – We thought it might be hard to beat the script for Inglourious Basterds, but we’ve heard good things about this, so perhaps we’ll have to see it!

Maggie Gyllenhaal Golden Globes WireImage9:26 PM - Jennifer Garner and Ashton Kutcher are presenting the award for Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series – Comedy Or Musical.

The Nominees:

Alec Baldwin – 30 Rock
Steve Carell – The Office
David Duchovny – Californication
Thomas Jane – Hung
Matthew Morrison – Glee

The Winner: Alec Baldwin – Matthew Morrison was ROBBED. Alec is good, but Glee rules! Alec was not there to accept the award.

Maggie Gyllenhaal looks horrid as she asks to go to NBC.com to donate to victims in Haiti. Good message, bad outfit choice.

9:32 PM - Samuel L. Jackson is here to show us the video for the “feel good movie of the year” known as Inglourious Basterds. We absolutely LOVED this movie. It is Quentin’s best since Pulp Fiction. What a brilliant film!

He also introduces the legend, Miss Sophia Loren. It was his honor and she receives a standing ovation. Holy crap…she looks amazing for her age!

She is here to present the Best Foreign Language Film.

The Nominees:

Baaria (Italy)
Broken Embraces (Spain)
The Maid (La Nana) (Chile)
A Prophet (Un Prophete) (France)
The White Ribbon (Das Weisse Band – Eine Deutsche Kindergeschichte)

The Winner: The White Ribbon – This looked the most interesting and now we want to see it.

We just want to mention how disrespectful it is that they turned the music on this guy. He could barely speak English, but was trying hard and he was majorly interrupted.

9:39 PM - Amy Poehler and Zach Levi present the award for Best Television Series – Drama.

The Nominees:

Big Love
Dexter
House
Mad Men
True Blood

The Winner: Mad Men – Meh…three of our shows were nominated, but none of them one.

Matthew Morrison Golden Globes WireImageOn a side note, why are they giving some people only ten seconds to accept their awards? RUDE.

9:45 PM: Taylor Lautner is here to show the video for the film (500) Days Of Summer. Is his suit pleather or satin/silk? It is very shiny!

Chase Crawford and Kristen Bell present the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television

The Nominees:

Jane Adams – Hung
Rose Byrne – Damages
Jane Lynch – Glee
Janet McTeer – Into The Storm
Chloë Sevigny – Big Love

The Winner: Chloë Sevigny – Wow. We thought Jane would win, but love Big Love, so we are happy. We hate her dress, and she’s showing nip.

What we think of her speech: She was a little hyper and giggly, but good. We love that she thanked her sister wives.

9:50 PM - Halle Berry is presenting the award for Best Performance by an Actor In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture.

The Nominees:

Matt Damon – Invictus
Woody Harrelson – The Messenger
Christopher Plummer – The Last Station
Stanley Tucci – The Lovely Bones
Christoph Waltz – Inglourious Basterds

The Winner: Christoph Waltz = We are so happy he WON. Seriously, he had stiff competition. Still, we thought his performance was absolutely brilliant. Yay!

What we thought of his speech: His story was awesome and he praised Tarentino a lot. We like!

Taylor Lautner Golden Globes WireImage9:57 PM - Robert DeNiro and Leonardo DiCaprio present the Cecile B. DeMille award to Martin Scorsese. Awards like this are always the best part of any award show and if any filmmaker ever deserved such an award, it was Scorsese. The maker of such movies as Casino, Goodfellas, The Age of Innocence, Gangs of New York, and Taxi Driver to name a few, it only makes sense to bestow an award on one of the greatest filmmakers of all time.

Scorsese is an excellent speaker that is quite funny when given the chance. Most importantly he is humble. It’s obvious how much he cares about his job and his movies. He did not make an effort to thank each person that has touched him individually, pointing out that filmmaking is a truly collaborative effort and that would make the award show much too long. We are truly glad that he was honored tonight!

10:14 PM - Jodie Foster presents the video for The Hurt Locker.

Mel Gibson presents the award for Best Director – Motion Picture after Ricky Gervais tells a funny joke about Mel.

The Nominees:

Kathryn Bigelow – The Hurt Locker
James Cameron – Avatar
Clint Eastwood – Invictus
Jason Reitman – Up In The Air
Quentin Tarantino – Inglourious Basterds

The Winner: James Cameron – Rightfully deserved. We see why Cameron makes so few films. He puts his whole heart and soul into every single production. As much as Quentin deserved an award, it is hard to top the magic that Cameron created with Avatar.

10:20 PM - Kiefer Sutherland and Olivia Wilde present the nominees for Best Television Series – Comedy Or Musical.

The Nominees:

30 Rock
Entourage
Glee
Modern Family
The Office

The Winner: Glee – We are thrilled Glee win. This show is amazing and it explores very important issues high school students face in a fun, musical setting.

Chloe Sevigny Golden Globes WireImage10:26 PM - The cast of The Hangover and Mike Tyson present the video of The Hangover.

Reese Witherspoon always looks so nice. She is presenting the award for Best Motion Picture – Comedy Or Musical.

The Nominees:

(500) Days Of Summer
The Hangover
It’s Complicated
Julie & Julia
Nine

The Winner: The Hangover – This was a major surprise, especially since it was up against two Meryl Streep films. This was unexpected for everyone.

10:33 PM - Arnold Schwarzenegger, the govnuh has come to present the video for Avatar.

Ricky hasn’t done much tonight, but he is introducing Mickey Rourke. Mickey is here to present the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.

The Nominees:

Emily Blunt – The Young Victoria
Sandra Bullock – The Blind Side
Helen Mirren – The Last Station
Carey Mulligan – An Education
Gabourey Sidibe – Precious: Based On The Novel Push By Sapphire

The Winner: Sandra Bullock – I don’t think anyone, not even Sandra Bullock thought she’d be winning. Our guess was Gabourey Sidibe was going to win, but apparently, Sandra’s performance was more impressive. Now we need to go see Blind Side.

What we thought of her speech: Like most people, it appeared that Sandra didn’t think she was going to win either. She was humbled apparently and noted the amazing women in her category. All in all, not a bad speech.

10: 35 PM - She has really big gums, but Sally Hawkins is presenting the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy Or Musical.

The Nominees:

Matt Damon – The Informant!
Daniel Day-Lewis – Nine
Robert Downey Jr. – Sherlock Holmes
Joseph Gordon-Levitt – (500) Days Of Summer
Michael Stuhlbarg – A Serious Man

The Winner: Robert Downey Jr. – Wow! Someone finally beat Daniel Day-Lewis. Ash has always loved Robert, and is thrilled he won.

What we thought of his speech: Funny! Definitely the funnies of the night.

10:46 PM - Kate Winslet is here to present the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama.

The Nominees:

Jeff Bridges – Crazy Heart
George Clooney – Up In The Air
Colin Firth – A Single Man
Morgan Freeman – Invictus
Tobey Maguire – Brothers

The Winner: Jeff Bridges – We’d hardly heard of the movie, so really, why would we expect a win for Jeff Bridges?

What we rate his speech: What a funny guy. He is a Hollywood legend, in his own right. We were not expecting him to win, but it is hard to argue with the genius of his performances throughout the years. Way to go Jeff!

Drew Barrymore Golden Globes WireImage10:55 PM - Well all we have left is the Best Motion Picture – Drama award. Julia Roberts is here to present the award. We aren’t sure what’s with the hippie hair and the huge necklace, or the overly plain dress for that matter. Maybe it’s just that she didn’t have anything else clean. Who knows, in any case, she’s offering the most important award of the night.

The Nominees:

Avatar
The Hurt Locker
Inglourious Basterds
Precious: Based On The Novel Push By Sapphire
Up in the Air

The Winner: Avatar – Given all the hype and the money that it has made, we can’t say we are surprised. There were some amazing movies up for the award this year, but they just didn’t stand a chance given the circumstances.

Overall Thoughts: Ricky was right when he said he wouldn’t be asked to host again. Sure, he had a few funny moments, but all things considered he did nothing to carry the show. The show had to carry itself and that doesn’t say a lot for any award show. Still, the winners and the presenters made the show a worthwhile event. A lot of people were humble, emotional, and many of them mentioned Haiti and other charity events, which was nice to see. We weren’t planning to watch, much less blog, the Golden Globes this year, but we’re glad that we sat through them. Seeing people that appreciate their work as much as some of these winners do, made the show worth watching.
