Filtered water is all the rage these days. I can’t say that I blame the people that decide to filter at home, considering the cost of bottled water and the thoughts of what could be running around in their tap. Still, before now the only experience I had with filtered water came from knowledge of products like Pur and Brita. In both cases, these are pitchers or filters that you use at home. We’ve tried the Pur with some pretty good results, but we still find ourselves picking up bottles of water when we are out and there are no other alternatives. Clear2Go is meant to change all of that. It is a filtered water bottle that allows you to fill up and go, just like normal.

The benefits to this are many, including the most obvious one where you don’t have to spend dollars (or more) a day on bottles of water as you roam around campus. We are on campus all day long and if we get thirsty we often head to one of the vending machines if we’re not near the cafeteria. At the vending machine we pay $1.40 for a bottle of water. If we’re really thirsty we might reason that this is a fair price, but we realize that it’s really highway robbery. Of course, when you need a drink you have to do what you have to do and usually, that means we’re stuck paying the price. With a Clear2Go bottle though you can just fill it up at any basic tap and drink it without worrying about any additives or chemicals that might be in your drink.

Beyond the money you will save there are several other benefits. The amount of chlorine in each bottle of water is reduced, which allows for less odor and a better taste. Each bottle holds 24 ounces of liquid and can filter 100 gallons of water before you need to begin using a new filter. Each bottle costs $17 and comes in your choice of silver, blue, green, or red. For our review we received the silver bottle, like the one pictured above.

I always enjoy reviewing anything that has to do with filtered water because I figure if I like it, just about everyone will. I am incredibly picky when it comes to water, filtered or otherwise. Our tap water isn’t horrible, but it’s from a well so there are some obvious differences. We buy bottled water for drinking just because it offers a more consistent taste. However, if we can get something good that comes out of the tap and saves me some money in the process, then I’m all for it.

While $17 does seem like a bit much for a water bottle, if you’re constantly buying bottles of water this will quickly end up saving you money. The cost ends up being well worth it because you can save hundreds of dollars by not having to buy water. Not only that, but it helps the environment when you cut down on all the consumption of bottled water because less bottles will be tossed out.

I was the first one in the house to try out the Clear2Go water bottle. I am not a huge fan of the taste of the water after it’s been filtered with the Clear2Go. I can’t really put my finger on what I don’t like about it. It could have been that it tasted too filtered or metallic for my tastes. Whatever it was, I only ended up using it a couple of times because I wasn’t very fond of it. My brother also gave it a whirl. He’s a health nut and works out daily, so he always has a water bottle with him. When he initially tried it out, he commented that the water needed to be a lot colder for it to taste good. He was not fond of the taste when the water was room temperature. However, he said it tasted fine when the water got colder. If you’re planning to take it with you on the go, a couple of ice cubes should help keep the water cold.

How useful this is will really depend on you. I did not care for the Clear2Go taste, but I am not a huge water fan. Others tried it and said as long as it was cold, it wasn’t bad. If this is something you need you might want to consider the purchase. However, I would not recommend it to casual water drinkers or people that only buy the occasional bottle of water. In those instances you probably wouldn’t prefer this product and it wouldn’t be worth the money anyhow.
