I don’t normally watch too much reality television, though I know that it’s pretty popular these days. I just can’t handle the catty, unrealistic nature of the average reality show. However, every once in a while there are those shows that make sure that they reward people that truly deserve something good to happen to them. In the case of Wedding Day, couples are nominated by family and friends to get a dream wedding after going through more than the average married couple might have been through together.

The premiere episode is centered around Holli and Steve, a couple that live not too far from where I do, in Michigan. Holli and Steve were set to be married in 2007 and just four days before they were able to say “I Do,” Holli was in a car accident that left her in a coma for six days. During that time, Steve sat in her hospital room, never leaving her side. In fact, that is where he spent their first wedding day; alone in her hospital room with her.

After Holli woke up she couldn’t work, so Steve nursed her back to health while she was in a wheelchair for six months. They are just now getting back to where they are going to be able to think about a wedding, so it’s an amazing surprise to know that the hosts of Wedding Day are in town to surprise them with the wedding of their dreams!

While I am not the over-emotional type when it comes to things on television, I was very happy to see TNT create a show that honored people that truly deserve a special wedding day. They could have easily made this a competition, involving catty brides and ridiculous grooms fighting for a special day, but they went the other way and chose people that deserved it, leaving the unnecessary drama behind and keeping the good stuff for the show.

The staff of Wedding Day uses a myriad of sources to find those deserving couples that they wish to help. They seek out information from non-profits, law enforcement agencies, universities, and plenty of other avenues to make sure they are helping the ones that deserve it the most.

Premiering on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, Wedding Day is hosted by Alan Dunn (celebrity event planner & food expert) and Diann Valentine (author of Weddings Valentine Style). These two hosts work together with the entire community of one lucky couple per show, to make their dream wedding become a reality and the result is nothing less than touching.

In the coming weeks you will see weddings for couples like Jaenelle & Nyk from Detroit, a couple that had to postpone their wedding because their young daughter needed to have a kidney removed and would need constant care from her mother, a neo-natal intensive care nurse and Capt. Shawn Fitzgerald and Capt. Christina Fanitzi from New York, a military couple that could not get married due to their duties in Iraq.

If you like heartwarming reality shows and touching wedding tributes, Wedding Day on TNT will be one of the best shows like this that you have ever seen. With that in mind, I highly recommend that you check this one out. Wedding Day is on TNT, Tuesday nights at 8 PM Eastern (7 Central).
