Now, it’s time to look at the Top Five Dramas:
#6 – 24: Redemption
The creators of 24 had to find a way to bridge the gap between Season Six and Season Seven of this hit television series. The writer’s strike made getting such an intensive show back on the air in a relatively short amount of time nearly impossible. That’s where the idea for 24: Redemption came into play. Kiefer’s back as everyone’s favorite bad ass, Jack Bauer and he’s better than ever as he sets out to help get a school full of children in Africa to a safe location, before he runs out of time. It’s available in a Special 3-Disc Edition with Digital Copy and Bonus Footage for over $40 and in a standard edition for under $20, on Amazon. |
#7 – Notorious
| One of the most notoriously famous movies by Hitchcock, Grant and Bergman, its a wonder why MGM hadn’t released Notorious on DVD until recently. The storyline might have been more effective back in 1946, when feelings were still quite harsh for Nazi sympathizers and spies, but the emotion can still be felt today thanks to the superb acting by two of Hollywood’s greatest, Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. As the daughter of such a spy, Alicia Huberman (Bergman) is forced to help Grant’s T. R. Devlin, catch a group of Nazis that have made their way to Brazil. This Hitchcock classic is priced at $14.99, a bargain for such a great movie. |

#8 – Rear Window (Universal Legacy Series)
The reality of how confining and closed in a movie can be is explored through Hitchcock’s Rear Window. With James Stewart playing L.B. “Jeff” Jeffries, a man confined to a wheelchair due to an injury he sustained, the human mind is explored in depth. The longer Jeff is confined to his home, the more obsessed with his neighbors he becomes. Jeff enjoys every moment of voyeuristic pleasure, as he watches their every move. Still, his own life might be in danger, when he believes something sinister is unfolding before his very eyes, and behind one neighbor’s closed doors. This Universal Studios Legacy Release is priced at $19.99. |
#9 – The Columbia Pictures Best Pictures Collection
| Not one but eleven Oscar winning (all for Best Picture) Columbia Pictures films are available in The Columbia Pictures Best Pictures Collection. This set is made up of great films that include It Happened One Night, Kramer vs. Kramer, All the King’s Men, Oliver!, From Here to Eternity, The Bridge on the River Kwai, and Lawrence of Arabia. With so many movies to choose from and for a price of less than $100 (that’s not even $10 per movie), you’ll get some of the best movies ever made, as a real holiday treat. |
#10 – Sabrina/Roman Holiday/Sunset Boulevard
Three distinctly different movies, two with Audrey Hepburn in them (and Gregory Peck, Humphrey Bogart) and the third with William Holden and Gloria Swanson, make up the latest releases in Paramount’s Centennial Collection. These classic movies are a must have for any true lovers of film. While Roman Holiday and Sabrina are two of the best Audrey Hepburn films ever, they also join Sunset Boulevard as amongst the best of Hollywood films released during their era. The movies range in price from $15.99 to $17.99 on Amazon. |
