SANTA MONICA, CA – The new coach has a secret weapon in the hilarious and heartwarming comedy THE LONGSHOTS, touching down on DVD and Blu-ray December 2 from The Weinstein Company and Genius Products. “A big winner for the whole family,” (Hollywood.com) THE LONGSHOTS is based on the awe-inspiring real-life accomplishments of 11-year-old Jasmine Plummer, who became the first female quarterback in Pop Warner’s 56 year history. Starring Ice Cube (Are We There Yet?, Barbershop) and rising star Keke Palmer (Akeelah and the Bee, Madea’s Family Renunion), THE LONGSHOTS follows the superstar quarterback’s journey as she leads her local football team to the league’s Super Bowl under the coaching of her uncle, a former high school football star.
From former Limp Bizkit frontman turned director Fred Durst, THE LONGSHOTS also features performances from Tasha Smith (Why Did I Get Married), Jill Marie Jones (The Perfect Holiday), Dash Mihok (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), Matt Craven (Crimson Tide) and Garrett Morris (“Saturday Night Live”). A “…Cinderella story, one whose heart is clearly in the right place…” (Los Angeles Times), THE LONGSHOTS DVD will include commentary from Director Fred Durst, 20 deleted scenes and much more (see next page) for the suggested retail price of $28.95 for standard DVD and $34.99 for Blu-ray.
Synopsis
When Curtis Plummer (Ice Cube), a down on his luck former high school football star, takes the only job he can find – babysitting his misfit niece Jasmine (Keke Palmer), he discovers that she has the skills that once made him a great quarterback. The only place these two opposites get along is on the field, so Curtis is determined to turn Jasmine into the star of the local team, The Minden Browns, and get his own stride back by becoming the coach. The boys on the team don’t want her but when she shows them she’s got skills, she turns their whole world upside down.
