MANswers is a man’s man kind of show. The entire premise of this show is to cater to men that are in puberty, college, or never really grew up. It’s easy to imagine men sitting around in bonding circles scratching, eating, and laughing while watching MANswers. Then again, maybe that’s just how my circle rolls. Either way this is one of those shows that tend to be (more often than not) gender specific.
I have not met too many women that find this show appealing. There are a few that can find the humor, but generally I find that most women don’t want to know “Which Nationality is most Willing to Put Out on the First Date”, and things of that sort.
The thing that makes this show work is that it’s mindless entertainment. You don’t need to think too much. All you need to do is be a guy and laugh. It’s simple and let’s face it, we could all use a little more simplicity these days. Spike Television is known for offering the best in guy programming, so I suppose it was only a matter of time before they went where they did. The reception was taken well enough to grant the show a second season, which apparently means I am not the only one out there watching MANswers.
Release Information:
Paramount and Spike have teamed up to offer you the 25 hottest questions from the first season of MANswers. This is a pretty basic disc to promote the show. If you’re new to the show, this is a good way to acquaint yourself with how it works. If you’re not new to the show, this gives you a chance to see some of your favorite moments all over again. It offers an inexpensive way to catch the best moments of the season without having to wait for your favorite re-runs to appear.
Spike and Paramount released MANswers: Best of Season One onto DVD on July, 15, 2008. This should be available wherever DVDs are sold, but I am guessing that it might be a little bit harder to find than your average title. With that in mind, if you are looking for this DVD you can zip on over to Amazon where it is available for $13.99.
The Manswers: The Best of Season One Plot
You might not believe it, but MANswers goes the extra mile to see that questions are well researched and answered by experts. No, seriously. Okay, well maybe not, but they do have a doctor or “expert” answering most questions at the end of the majority of the show’s segments. The segments tend to begin with a question and then a group of various men (often on the street) get to answer the question of the moment. As you can guess, these are often the most entertaining answers. I mean, the slowest guys seem to make their way to those microphones. I don’t know if it just works that way or if they are attempting to get their 15 minutes, but whew wee, some of these boys are hilariously behind in the gene pool.
I can’t give you the answers to the questions or it wouldn’t be any fun watching the show. I will say that some of these questions should be watched without women present though because they just won’t find humor in a couple of them. It’s all in good fun, of course, but some girls just can’t take these kinds of gender specific jokes.
It’s true I would be able to give you the answers, but I can offer some highlights from the disc that you will be able to watch when/if you purchase this DVD for yourself. There are two types of MANswer questions. The kind that probably won’t offend female viewers and the kind that probably will. In order to be helpful, I have separated some of the questions into these two categories for you.
Questions that she might not hate:
What’s the best human organ to eat, the choicest cut?
What’s the most dangerous wild animal in America?
Is the touch of death for real?
How many floors can you fall in an elevator and still live?
Can you beat a Breathalyzer? What about a cool mint?
How can a guy get high legally?
How can you defend yourself in a bar fight?
Can you take the dump of death? (Some might find this overly offensive)
How can you get drunk faster?
The Questions that she probably will hate:
What does the shape of a girl’s boobs tell you about her personality?
How can you make your girlfriend less bitchy?
What kind of girls are the best in bed?
How tough are implants?
Is she a hooker or is she a cop?
How teeny can a bikini get before it’s legally considered nudity?
Sure these aren’t the most important questions needing to be asked, but if you’re looking for mindless, funny entertainment, the questions don’t get much better than this. The only questions here that I could see anyone getting offended by were the Dump of Death and then another question I did not add here that discusses bestiality. Some might say that MANswers shouldn’t have gone there, but if you take it light-heartedly it’s not as bad as you might think.

Audio/Visual:
I would be shocked to find out that MANswers was anything less than low budget. If it is a higher budget production, they need to fire their video crew and start from scratch because this video has a tendency to look pretty ragged. The aspect ratio of 1.33:1 ends up looking soft with plenty of blurriness and some compression errors throughout the disc. It is pretty disappointing. I do not remember it being this bad when watching it on television, but it’s possible that it needs extra touchups there, too.
The Dolby Digital 2.0 setup is good for what it is worth. The sound is anything but dynamic and though it sounds like standard, basic television sound, it could stand some cleaning up, too. The audio ends up being much better than the video, though it’s still not a strong presentation by any means. It’s basic at its best and worst, with nothing else to say about how it sounds.

Bonus Features:
There is not one single solitary bonus feature to be found on this disc. This doesn’t surprise me, but still, with this being a new show it seems that they could have whipped something up for the occasion.

Bottom Line:
MANswers is a show with a limited audience spectrum. It’s not going to suit everyone. Hell, it’s not even going to suit half of everyone. It’s funny if you like sexist and sometimes crude humor. If you like stereotypical guy things, MANswers will be enjoyable for you. It’s not the best, but it can be funny. I suggest you pick up a 12 pack and invite the boys over to “vent”, as this will make MANswers even more enjoyable than you might find it watching it alone. Make sure to check this out on Spike or rent it before buying.
