Drawn TogetherCast: Adam Carolla, Jess Harnell, Abbey McBride, Jack Plotnick, James Arnold Taylor, Tara Strong, Cree Summer
Rating: Not Rated
Studio: Comedy Central/Paramount
Release Date: May 13, 2008

The concept of Drawn Together is actually quite funny. Going along the same vein as a South Park style show, Drawn Together spoofs some of the more ridiculous moments of reality television and blends in animation that can only be deemed as raunchy. If you consider yourself to be politically correct and do not like the kind of comedy that is known to make weaker people sick then Drawn Together – Uncensored!: Season Three or any of the other seasons are not going to be for you. There is something about gay superheroes, slutty princesses, and fat whore-like Betty Boop clones that just doesn’t seem to be PC, and that’s only part of the cast.

Luckily for me, I prefer comedy that is on the edge. I have had the chance to see Drawn Together before and I usually enjoyed the experience. Before viewing this set, I was most familiar with season two of the show. While I normally prefer watching South Park or Lil Bush, I have to admit that this show does have its moments that make it worth watching. Unfortunately, those moments have declined a great deal in the past seasons and it leaves season three feeling like a shell of what the show once was. The show has been canceled (probably for that very reason), so this is the last DVD you can purchase for the series.

Release Information:
Drawn Together – Uncensored!: Season Three had a cult following like many of the Comedy Central shows that are a part of the network. While shows like South Park are few and far between, there have been a few shows, including Drawn Together that have had more than two seasons and continue to have a loyal fan following even after the show has been canceled.

Despite this being the third season, the show debuted back in 2005 for a pretty short, first season. The second season was available for viewing in 2007, and now we have the third and final season. Drawn Together – Uncensored!: Season Three was made available for purchase on May 13, 2008. You should be able to find this box set nearly anywhere that DVDs are sold. You can also purchase this set on Amazon where it is currently retailing for $24.99 with the option for free Super Shipping.

The Drawn Together – Uncensored!: Season Three Plot
One would think that a show like Drawn Together would have an endless amount of things to spoof since reality television is about as laughable as it gets. This is one of the things that made the show so good. It took something that wasn’t worth watching due to the over the top nature and made it even worse. Of course, the second time around its much funnier. Unfortunately, this season did not follow the reality premise like the previous seasons and the 14 episodes that are available here just seem lacking in comparison with episodes from previous seasons. I kept wanting more and continued to not receive what I was hoping I’d find.

There aren’t many episodes that stick to the reality premise that was set from the beginning. I think there are only about two episodes that go that route with the other twelve doing their own thing, and not doing it all that well. The rest of the episodes see the characters involved in raunchy escapades that, while occasionally funny, have little point to do with the original concept set by the show.

People that feel that comedy has become too PC should enjoy Drawn Together – Uncensored!: Season Three. The show leaves no comedic stone unturned. You will see raunchy jokes about pedophilia, race, bestiality, sexuality, intelligence, necrophilia, weight, and just about everything else you can imagine. In fact, think of the most inappropriate thing you can think of and chances are you might find it here. The stereotypes are all represented here in prime form. The gay superhero character, Captain Hero, is simply laughable while a character like Foxxy offers just about every black stereotype you can imagine and then some. Meanwhile, Princess Clara (think a mix between Princess Peach and a Disney Princess) is a racist slut that says and does whatever feels good to her.

While these moments bring out the beauty of these characters, the main reason for watching deals with the spoof moments that are so few and far between. These moments are generally so funny that it makes them worth waiting for. You haven’t lived until you’ve seen the Fat Albert parody in “Foxxy and the Gang Bang.” While that moment was funny, I have to admit my favorite was when Charlotte bangs Spanky because he’s “Some Pig” in “Charlotte’s Web of Lies”. One cannot help but laugh at this.

Drawn Together – Uncensored!: Season Three offers 14 episodes plus special features on two discs. While this season was not as good as season two, it’s still pretty funny and definitely more entertaining than a lot of the things you will find on television today. That being said, it’s not for everyone. If you have a weak stomach or prefer to be close minded, Drawn Together – Uncensored!: Season Three will only end up upsetting you or grossing you out.

Storyline/Plot: ★★★½☆
Replayability: ★★★★☆
Acting: ★★★★☆
Directing: ★★★☆☆

Audio/Visual:
Like in previous seasons, Drawn Together – Uncensored!: Season Three ends up providing an excellent quality that leaves little, if anything, to complain about. You will experience a good level of clarity, bright colors, and a strong amount of detail. As with most television shows, Drawn Together – Uncensored!: Season Three offers an aspect ratio of 1.33:1. There is little compression artifacts to be seen. The DVD quality actually comes out pretty clean.

The audio is nothing spectacular, but at the same time there is little to complain about. This is a standard Dolby 2.0 mix that you would expect to find on any television show. No volume toggling was necessary and while it was hardly dynamic, it did get the job done without any need for complaint.

Visual: ★★★★☆
Audio: ★★★☆☆

Bonus Features:
There are not as many special features on Drawn Together – Uncensored!: Season Three as there were in previous seasons though there are some halfway decent features, if you like this sort of thing. One thing fans of the show will notice right away is that there are less episode commentaries available in this season. Instead of offering commentaries for every episode, this time around only four episodes include commentaries. The episodes that offer commentaries are “Freaks and Greeks”, “Lost in Parking Space, Part I”, “Drawn Together Babies”, and “Breakfast Food Killers.” Commentaries were never my favorite, but these weren’t the worst I’ve ever heard.

Next up is the Karaoke Sing-a-Long, which makes six songs available from the series. As you may have guessed, the songs are in karaoke mode so that you can sing along, too. Sure, you probably will never sing these songs, but it’s amusing to have the option. In the end, songs like “Face the Balls” might have been meant to be classics, but seldom become them.

Finally you are offered a series of promos and previews. There are spots for South Park, The Sarah Silverman Show, and other Comedy Central offerings.

Bonus Features: ★★★½☆

Bottom Line:
If you have not had a chance to become familiar with Drawn Together I do not recommend seeing this season first because you may not watch the other two. While this season is decent, it’s certainly not the best that the series has to offer. Drawn Together – Uncensored!: Season Three will be perfect for fans of the show. Otherwise, I recommend trying out seasons one or two before you check out season three. The change in premise, doesn’t change the laughs too much, but it makes it less enjoyable then the previous attempts at comedy that Drawn Together has provided.

Overall Rating: ★★★½☆
