If you have never seen Crank Yankers this one disc set would certainly be the perfect way to catch up on the show. While I have seen the show in passing, I had never really watched it on a regular basis. Filmed in Nevada, the actors and comedians playing the puppets call up unsuspecting people and prank them. The premise is pretty simple and in a lot of cases it is pretty funny. It’s that childish funny that is rarely seen on adult shows.
We all have those great pranking moments from our past. Everyone, or at least everyone I know, has made at least one prank phone call in their life. Whether you were the person who used to send pizzas to someone’s house or you called and asked stupid questions or made someone say something stupid, this will give you some nice memories of days gone by. These calls are probably more inventive than the ones you made as a child, but that is part of their charm. Crank Yankers has a way of being offensively funny at times and if you like that kind of humor you will absolutely love this DVD.
Release Information:
On June 2, 2002, Crank Yankers hit the television scene with their first show. What’s not to love about puppets that pull pranks? It’s even better when your creators and staff include people like Adam Carolla (Drawn Together) and Jimmy Kimmel. The show recently ended its fourth season.
This one-disc compilation DVD includes 58 of the best skits to ever land on the show. While the disc tells you these are the best 58, it’s likely that this would be a matter of opinion. Some will love these skits and others will wish that their favorites had made it if they didn’t. Either way, this one disc set hit the market on December 4, 2007. The The Best of Crank Yankers Uncensored Plot
The premise of Crank Yankers is that puppets make prank phone calls. It sounds pretty simple. It may sound juvenile, but you have no idea how funny it is until you take the plunge and watch it at least once. The creators of the show, Daniel Kellison, Jimmy Kimmel, and Adam Carolla all got together and assembled a group of talent to make those calls. Depending on the phone call, the puppets will call businesses or home residences in order to make some sort of request and then it goes wherever the actor and the person on the other end are willing to let it go.
The interesting thing about this show is that there is absolutely no script. Naturally, it would be hard to script things because they are prank calling someone, but it seems to be funnier knowing that even the actors have no idea what they are in store for with each call. The only thing that is scripted is the reason for calling.
To give you an idea of what to expect, some of the people making the calls are Sarah Silverman, Dane Cook, and Wanda Sykes. Other talent that has been on Crank Yankers includes Patton Oswalt, Gilbert Gottfried, Michael Ian Black, Snoop Dogg, Seth MacFarlane, Kevin Nealon, Drew Carey, and Andy Richter. All of the material that is presented is new, fresh, and has not been done before.
This set includes the very best (according to the creators) 58 prank calls that have occurred on the four seasons, since the show first aired in 2002. This is the perfect DVD to get you interested in the show or to revisit the prank calls you love the most if you’re already a fan.

Audio/Visual:
The video quality of this Crank Yankers DVD is shown at the original aspect ratio of 1.33:1. You can expect a clean transfer that looks as good as it would if you were watching it on television. Everything looks like you would expect it to, with nothing fuzzy, damaged, or anything else. This DVD is without visual errors for the most part. The audio is available with a Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo track. The audio passes. It’s not the quality you would hear on something high budget, but this is a show about puppets making prank calls, so it passes.

Bonus Features:
There is not one single bonus feature on The Best of Crank Yankers Uncensored DVD. While this is not surprising for Comedy Central titles, it would have been a nice addition to a Best Of compilation.

Bottom Line:
Crank Yankers is a pretty funny television show. The idea is simple yet just stupid enough to make you laugh out loud. If you have never seen the show this would be the perfect way to get acquainted with it and if you have this is an absolute must buy.
