Puddle of Mudd - FamousI received Puddle of Mudd’s newest CD, Famous in the mail recently and I couldn’t wait to pop it in and give it a listen. I decided to live blog this because it will give you a better idea of my feelings for each song and the band as a whole. Each track below is listed in order on the CD, with my thoughts attached.

“Famous”: “Famous” is an awesome song. It’s really reminiscent of the Puddle of Mudd sound. If you are fan of the group, then you will love this song. It was a good choice for them to start with on this album. Some of the lyrics give nods to 80s rock music, which is a nice touch. I won’t be surprised if this ends up being a hit with the radio stations. I love it when CDs start out with a good song because it signals that it’s likely to be a good CD.

“Livin’ On Borrowed Time”: This song is a little funkier than “Famous”. It’s got a great beat. It’s a little more subtle, but very catchy. The sound is still very PoM, which gives it a unique sound compared to other rockers that are in the scene currently. The lyrics are catchy, so I found myself humming along as I learned the lay of the song. So far, I am loving this CD.

“It Was Faith”: In It Was Faith you are dealing with a song that’s more of a ballad. Pop stations are going to eat this one up if they release it to the masses. It’s safe to say that had I heard this song on the radio it would convince me to buy the CD just for this one song. I haven’t listened to Puddle of Mudd since they released Blurry, but I have to say that I am glad I had a chance to pick up this CD because it’s turning out to be awesome in every way.

“Psycho”: What’s not to like about a song that talks about a schizophrenic psycho? This song is just funky. It reminds me of Nirvana, which is nice because they were one of my favorite bands back in the day. At this point I am unable to pick a favorite rock song, because everyone keeps getting better than the last. It makes me wonder…why all CDs can’t be this good?

“We Don’t Have To Look Back”: This is another ballad. It’s one of those very movie friendly songs. I could see this song being a musical interlude in any good movie. “We Don’t Have To Look Back” offers great lyrics and a good sound. I am noticing that this album is offering a good sense of thought and control. Time obviously went into picking the right music for this album. It’s rare that I like four songs on any CD, but when you have them in a consistent row, it’s near amazing.

“Moonshine”: “Moonshine” offers a more mellow rock song. At this point, I am ready to start this CD over from the beginning when I am done because it’s so good I might as well listen to it a second time. It’s rare that a person will like so many songs on a non-greatest hits CD. This is one of those songs that get me moving. I just noticed I was sitting here tapping my foot to the beat (it’s hard to dance while you’re in a chair).

“Thinking About You”: Here we have another song that’s very reminiscent of the Puddle of Mudd sound. It’s a good song. The beat is mellow with a strong and steady feel to it overall. It’s not my favorite on the disc, but in saying that I also have to admit that I have no problem listening to it. It’s doubtful that I would turn it off when it came on, so if nothing else it’s worth listening to.

“Merry-Go-Round”: Listening to this song made be laugh. It’s very 80s dance rock-ish in nature. It’s hyper and a lot of fun. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it when it first started, but by the middle of the song it grew on me and I was loving the song and the bounced up nature.

“I’m So Sure”: A voice over starts this song and it really has a way of getting you in the mood for the song. The song is about the disgust for a person and how the singer doesn’t want to be like someone they hate. It’s something I can relate to and it has a powerful beat that ties the hatred and disgust together nicely.

“Radiate”: “Radiate” is going to be a chart topper. The subtle but strong vibe and the ballad-like rock feel are going to make it huge. It’s an amazing song. It’s hard to say it’s my favorite because so many of them were amazing, but it’s definitely one of my favorites on the disc.

“If I Could Love You”: I was expecting a ballad by the title of the song, but it’s more like an angry love song. It details the frustration of a man who wants to love a woman. The passion and drive that pushes this song forward is nothing short of attractive. I’d say it was one of my favorites on the disc, but what’s the point at this stage?

I cannot make this any clearer, buy this CD. If you love Puddle of Mudd you will absolutely adore this CD. If you’re a rock fan, but are not Puddle of Mudd fans you should check it out because you might surprise yourself and discover you are.
