I am not overly familiar with the name Emmy Rossum. In fact, when I was sent this sampler I had never heard the name before. There are only three songs on the sampler so I decided to give it a whirl. I enjoy discovering new artists. Music has always been somewhat of a passion for me, so it is enjoyable to discover that new sound that evokes new feelings within me. I am one of those people that always remember where I was the first time I heard that song on the radio.
Rather than look any information up about Emmy, I decided to go ahead with what I knew. Nothing. Based on the CD I know her album is coming soon and she’s signed by Geffen. Other than that I am about to find out all I truly need to know about Ms. Rossum. I am about to find out whether or not I feel she is truly worth the time it will take to listen to her and all further albums that she creates.
“Slow me Down” – There are parts of this song that is entirely too choppy and then there are parts that flow and are just gorgeous to listen to when Rossum sings. She has a nice voice. I’ve never heard her so I wasn’t sure what to expect. She has a very unique and pleasing voice. I am not sure that I love the song, but it’s interesting. It shows her potential whether I love it or not.
“Stay” – This song has the same flowing, breezy quality that “Slow me Down” has only there is no choppiness. This is good relaxation music. It’s not hard on the ears and it has the ability to put you into a trance. You just sit and listen. It allows for reflection, which is nice. Even if you aren’t thinking of the song itself, it does make you think, and the melody sounds pleasant while you are lost in your reflections.
“Falling” – Rossum has an incredibly pleasing voice. I had to call her pop and in truth she’s really not like anything you would hear on a pop station. I can see her music transferring into movies well. Each song on this sampler does well at offering a stage for a scene that could played out in any romantic movie.
Emmy Rossum gives off that “Neverending Story” vibe. She has an ethereal sound and feel to her music. With each listen you discover new worlds and something about her voice or songs that you did not previously pick up on. Thanks to her lovely voice and interesting instrumentals I highly recommend Rossum and suggest that anyone looking for a semi-pop female artist with great music, check her out.
