DVD Box Set: Drawn Together is not for the Faint of Heart

Drawn TogetherDrawn Together is not your average, everyday cartoon. In fact, it’s one of those adult cartoons that are even too adult for some grown people. If you are easily offended this isn’t for you. If you don’t like people making racist jokes, gay jokes, fat jokes, or picking on minorities then this set isn’t for you. If you are willing to laugh at anything no matter how taboo you will love this show.

I didn’t see the first season though it didn’t take too long to get caught up on who was who and what was happening. The premise is pretty simple. Everyone on the show is in a reality series similar to something like The Real World, where they all live in one house. The big difference is that these cartoon characters are not like any you have ever seen before.

In total there are eight cartoon characters. The characters include Princess Clara, Foxxy (the black fox), Toot (the pseudo-Betty Boop fat girl), Ling Ling (think Pokemon), Wooldor Sockbat, Xandir (the gay adventure character), Spanky Ham (the Internet character), and Captain Hero. In the second season, you have a chance to see how the characters attempt to break out of the reality television racket in favor of true stardom. When that doesn’t work so well and they see what truly hapless losers they are, they return to the house for some more reality fun.

Drawn Together is incredibly offensive on so many levels. However, there are lessons to be learned here. They tackle issues like gay rights and the health insurance along with racism and other important topics. In between the serious topics, there are plenty of sex shots – men with men, men with women, women with women, and people with Ling Ling. It’s crude in various forms, but if you like crude then this is right up your alley. I didn’t have a problem with it at all. I found a level of hilarity to the entire season.

Some of the best episodes include “Captain Hero’s Marriage Pact”, “Little Orphan Hero”, “Super Nanny”, “A Tale of Two Cows”, and “A Very Special Drawn Together After School Special”. These are by far some of the funniest episodes of the season, in m y opinion, though all of the episodes seemed to have at least a few laughs that made them worthwhile.

Drawn Together includes 15 shows in the second season. These shows are on two discs and there are some special features, as well. The special features include multiple commentaries, behind the scenes interviews with the cast and crew, and around five songs that are offered in sing-a-long style and Karaoke mode (with and without lyrics). There are also some DVD previews thrown in for good measure.

Drawn Together is an awesome cartoon that should be around for a few more seasons, at least. I would recommend adult cartoon lovers check out this series. Don’t pick it up if you are planning to take it seriously, but if you want something racy to make you laugh check this one out. If you’re worried you might not like it, rent it first. Otherwise, this one is definitely worth picking up.
