TV Preview: Season Two of Dexter is Sizzling

Dexter Family PhotoA few weeks ago, I watched the first season of Dexter in a number of days. Like most who watch the show, America’s favorite Serial Killer, Dexter Morgan, has captivated me in ways that serial killers should not captivate people. Morgan is perhaps the first and last killer who I want to see go free. I was crushed when the lights went out on The Sopranos and I know that when the end comes for Dexter it will be a sad day, as well because there is nothing else like it on television.

When I received the first four episodes of season two of Dexter I could hardly contain myself. I couldn’t wait to pop the disc in my DVD and watch all four episodes. Usually, I will try and restrain myself, but with Dexter it’s hard to do that. I had to know what would happen to Dexter now that his brother was dead and his foster sister, Deb had lived through the most traumatic experience of her young life.

Season two picks up 38 days after Dexter (Michael C. Hall) kills his brother. Life is crazy for our favorite serial killer. Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) has moved in to Chez Dexter and has taken over his home in a way that no one ever has. Sgt. Doakes (Erik King) is hot on his tail, following him everywhere because he is certain that he is going to find Dexter doing something he shouldn’t be doing. If he only knew the truth!

Finally, there is Rita (Julie Benz), Dexter’s sensitive girlfriend. Apparently, this season, sweet Rita flips her lid. After deeming Dexter a junkie, and when he doesn’t deny his addiction to…something…he ends up in a 12 step program to save his relationship. However, in the midst of everything he meets his sponsor, the incredibly beautiful Lila (Jaime Murray), and while Rita might not like his taste in sponsors, Dexter is glad to have someone in his life that really sees him, even if they don’t know what they are seeing.

Lila is not the only new character that will appear this season. Some of the new characters include Agent Lundy (Keith Carradine), an FBI Agent and profiler who is working with the Miami PD to crack the Bay Harbor Butcher case. The Bay Harbor Butcher is said to make the Ice Truck Killer look like a chump. Also, new to the show this season is Rita’s mother, Gail (JoBeth Williams), who has her eye on Dexter along with everyone else.

The result of what I have seen of season two is amazing. The show picks up exactly where it left off where excitement and intrigue are concerned. As the season progresses, we will see Dexter change, face challenges that he has never faced before, and learn more about Harry and the code that has always kept Dexter safe. Whether you love him or fear him, Dexter is one hour that you won’t want to miss on Sunday nights.

It may be my guiltiest pleasure, but thanks to good writing, excellent acting, and plot lines that are as sharp as Dexter’s scalpel, I have to admit this is one of my favorite shows on television. It’s also the one I am sure not to miss. Check out Dexter when the new season starts this Sunday, September 30, 2007 at 9:00 PM EST. I guarantee you won’t want to miss it.
