Nip Tuck is not a show that I have had the pleasure of watching prior to seeing season 4 for this review. I had heard various things about the show, but for some reason I have never had a chance to catch it on television. It’s really too bad that I missed the previous seasons because it did not take more than a few minutes for me to become interested to the point of needing to know what was going to happen.

Nip Tuck airs on the F/X Network, which is becoming well known for the best shows on network television. Nip Tuck was one of the first shows on the Network and it’s definitely one of the best that I have had a chance to see.

The great thing about this show is that it goes where few shows go. You will see an abundance of celebrity guest stars, drama, humor, well developed plot lines, and much more. Everything fits the story and the two men in which the show revolves around. Christian Troy and Sean McNamara are amazing characters on their own that are brought to life by a good supporting cast and the amazing actors who play them. Who knew that cosmetic surgery could be so interesting?

While I was new to the show it didn’t take long to pick up what was going on. In the first episode, Sean (Dylan Walsh) and Christian (Julian McMahon) are celebrating their 5,000th operation. While Christian wants to have a good time, Sean decides to go home to his wife who is pregnant. From the looks of it, Sean and his wife, Julia (Joely Richardson), are newly back together and they have agreed to work on their differences. In the first few episodes, you learn that Sean and Julia’s son is going to be born with a genetic deformity that Julia knew was a possibility, despite not telling Sean.

Meanwhile, Larry Hagman guest stars as a rich industrialist, Burt Landau, who wants a new set of testicles and to buy the business from Christian and Sean. Thanks to Christian’s affinity for women he cannot have, Landau’s wife helps convince him that the plan is a good idea and he later convinces Sean. In later episodes, Liz (Roma Maffia) goes through an urban legend, against her will, of course, and after a night at the bar ends up with one less kidney.

You can expect to see some major problems surface between Sean and Julia. The number one problem being Marlowe (Peter Dinklage), who seems to show more care and interest in Sean’s deformed baby than Sean can muster up on his own. Christian also manages to seduce Landau’s wife though that does not come without strings attached. The wife later receives a visitor from her past in the form of James, played by Jacqueline Bisset. When James appears things become complicated as money and other favors are requested.

While it may seem like there is a lot going on, the show turns out to be simply amazing. The crazier things are the more interesting they become. When I signed on to watch this show I didn’t want to like it. I am not sure why, but I figured I would watch it, hate it, and put it behind me. However, thanks to the excellent acting and the strong performances and characters I was easily attached to this amazing show. The guest appearances by all of the stars that have been in this season also add a great bit to the show. This season offers Kathleen Turner, Catherine Deneuve, and Rosie O’Donnell amongst others.

To put it mildly, as a first time viewer, I can honestly say season four of Nip Tuck has made a fan out of me. I can only hope that considering when I am walking into the series that it continues on this path and gets better with age. As I have said before I am not a huge special feature person. I have yet to buy a DVD specifically for any supplements. If things are there that’s fine, but it’s the main item (show or movie) that causes me to buy the DVD.

In this box set you will receive deleted scenes, a gag reel, and several small featurettes. The featurettes include “Clever Casting: The Season’s Guest Stars”, “The Cutting Edge: How Real Life Dramas are Incorporated into the Show”, and “Sizzle: The Sexuality of Nip Tuck”.
If you are a fan of Nip Tuck this season is definitely not to be missed. The DVD quality is crisp, clear, and it sounds fabulous. The show quality (writing, directing, and acting) is enough to make a fan out of just about any non-believer.

Additionally, it makes for an excellent, indulgent way to unwind. You can put the kiddies to bed and enjoy this sexy, adult drama that is destined to please nearly anyone that chooses to watch.
