Back in the BarnyardOne of the new shows on Nickelodeon in the fall 2007 season is called Back in the Barnyard. I had the opportunity to get a sneak peek of the show. The show takes place a few years after the end of the hit movie Barnyard. The preview was an advanced review copy, which may or may not be the same as the final version of this particular episode.

The premise of the show is identical to the premise of the movie. A group of barnyard animals can talk, walk and act like humans do. This fact is something the humans never seem to detect. The animals are humorous and have a lot of fun together. They also jump to a lot of conclusions when it comes to the farmer and what the humans are thinking. This, of course, leads to plenty of adventure and a whole lot of fun.

The episode I had the chance to see was entitled “Escape from the Barnyard”. In the episode, the animals think the farmer (who they believe is a vegan) has become a carnivorous meat eater. They believe he bought a grill to roast them on. This is further “confirmed” when the sheep are taken out of the barn and seemingly disappear. “Escape from the Barnyard” will premiere as the second half of the first official episode of the show.

Back in the Barnyard is voiced by a talented cast. There are plenty of familiar names in the cast. The ringleader in the barnyard is Otis, an adventurous yet good hearted cow voiced by Chris Hardwick. Otis is accompanied by a sassy cow, Bessy (Wanda Sykes), wise-cracking mouse, Pip (Jeff Garcia), clumsy rooster, Peck (Rob Paulson), loyal pig, Pig (Tino Insana), power hungry dog, Duke (Dom Irrera), athletic Abby (Leigh-Ally Baker), and paranoid ferret Freddie (Cam Clark). The human characters include the Farmer (Fred Tatasciore), the suspicious neighbor who seems to know what the animals are up to, Mrs. Beady (Maria Bamford), and her husband, Mr. Beady (Steve Oedekerk).

This show is entertaining for all audiences. Fans of the movie will love this show. The humor was on par with the typical child-friendly comedy and there were plenty of silly moments to laugh at while watching the episode. The entire premise of the show is fun, which is a great basis to have for any show. The humor is clean enough to let your children watch the show without worrying about them. What could be better for a show on Nickelodeon?
