The Suite Life of Zack and Cody is one of the most popular shows on the Disney Channel and it is easy to see why. This 30 minute sitcom is popular with kids of all ages as well as adults. It is a family staple in the Evans household. The show contains plenty of good, fun, and safe humor. While it is ideal for an audience 9-15, I am glad to see there are a few good shows I can allow my son to watch these days. Since the humor doesn’t necessarily cater to any age group, it is something I can enjoy watching with him.
I had the chance to review The Suite Life of Zack and Cody – Suite Sweet Victory Edition DVD. I was looking forward to watching this show because I like it. So, the family piled in front of the big screen and spent the better part of an hour and a half laughing at the identical twins, Zack and Cody (played to perfection by Dylan and Cole Sprouse) and their friends get in and out of multiple adventures.
Zack and Cody live in the Tipton Hotel with their mother (Kim Rhodes) who is a singer at the hotel. They have made friends with the hotel staff including Maddie (Ashley Tisdale), Mr. Moseby (Phil Lewis), and Esteban (Adrian R’Mante). Another central character of the show is London Tipton (Brenda Song). Her father owns the Tipton Hotel, though London lives there alone in the Penthouse. You also occasionally get to see Zack and Cody’s school friends including Max (Alyson Stoner), Agnes (Allie Grant), and Tapeworm (Dennis Bendersky).
The Suite Life of Zack and Cody – Suite Sweet Victory contains three episodes, 30 minutes a piece. There is one episode from Season One and two episodes from Season Two. The look of the boys (and their hair) is a major indication of the amount of time between the episodes. The DVD also contains some special features, including a Suite Life Trivia Game and a Gag Reel featuring Bloopers from the filming of the show.
The first episode is episode #1.9, “Band in Boston”. Cody and Zack form a band with Max and Tapeworm called Rock Squared. They are entering a Battle of the Bands competition at the Tipton. Their competition includes Maddie’s band, Waterworks, which she is the lead singer in with the Tipton’s “stupid but cute” Lifeguard, Lance. When Lance and the rest of the band’s instruments get ruined (like who knew water had a dark side?!), they must rely on London to buy them new instruments.
Being London, she will help them, for a price. London wants to be in the band. Despite Maddie’s protestations, Lance agrees to let her in the band. While they first put London on the tambourine (which she calls the tangerine), she decides that isn’t good enough. She wants to be a lead singer. Wanting to keep London happy, Lance makes her a backup singer, but that still isn’t good enough. She wants to be the lead singer, like Maddie…only London can’t sing.
In the meantime, Zack and Cody have creative differences. Cody is more interested on rehearsing on a schedule and focusing on the quality of the song, which he wrote. Zack is more interested in chillin’, buying hot new clothes, and showing up when he remembers he has rehearsal. The twins end up fighting, potentially ruining their chances of winning the Battle of the Bands.
The second episode is episode #2.7, “Election”. In this episode, Zack and Cody run against one another in the school election. After Zack learns the school president gets to attend a convention in Hawaii, he runs. Cody, on the other hand, wants to run because he cares about the issues and wants to improve the school. When London and Maddie find out about the boys and the election, they quickly take sides and agree to run each boy’s campaign. London helps Zack by providing him with all the financial support he needs to buy votes. Maddie tries to help Cody win by being fair and honest.
The third episode is episode #2.10, “Not So Suite 16”. Maddie is about to have her sweet 16. She decides to have an Italian Riviera party. At the same time, London decides to have her sweet sixteen, even though her birthday was six months ago. The two, who share friends, fight over who will go to each party with London trying to buy her friends’ attendance and Maddie trying to appeal to them as the sweet person she is. Meanwile, Cody buys Maddie the perfect present, while Zack tries to find something she’ll love (since he’s in love with her) with the measly $12 he has.
The quality for the DVD is impeccable. It is just like watching the show on television. Both the video and audio seem flawless. The Suite Life of Zack and Cody – Suite Sweet Victory is a great DVD to purchase if you are a Zack and Cody fan. The humor is funny enough to keep both kids and adults laughing and the fresh perspective on each episode ensures that each show is unique and worth watching.
