Senator KennedyI have been signed up to receive updates from the Human Rights Campaign for the past few years. I like knowing what is going on in Washington and throughout the world when it comes to GLBT rights. Typically, I will just read the email, take action if necessary, and go on with my day, but a recent video sent courtesy of HRC’s President Joe Solmonese touched me. I thought that I’d share it with all of you.

I have always been one to speak out about hate crimes for all minority groups and I felt the following videos paint a poignant view of the fight for Hate Crime legislation, which has the potential to pass in the Senate.

I urge you to watch these videos with an open mind & heart. Try putting yourself in The Shepards shoes. If Matthew had been your child, wouldn’t you want the same legislation protecting him (or her)?

Being someone who is GLBT spans genders, race, religion, disability/ability, cultures, and there are GLBT individuals all over the world. There is no set “gay stereotype” and GLBT people come from all walks of life…rich, poor, or otherwise. Any family has the potential of having children, brothers, sisters, cousins, parents, aunts, uncles, and friends who are in the GLBT community so everyone has the potential to be affected by this legislation.

Please urge your state Senators to support the Hate Crime Bill…no one deserves to die because they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered…no one.

To take action please visit the HRC Website.
