Game Review: Diner Dash

Diner Dash is an addictive romp in the day of a waitress. Flo leaves her high-maintenance job in business and decides to take on the corporate machine with her own little restaurant. The place is beat up and only has a couple of tables. However, it is your job to change that. With some time and perseverance Flo will get more tables, better decorations, and even new restaurants.
Sounds easy enough, right? Well, don’t bank on easy for too long. You have different types of customers and they all require different levels of service. You have the old men, who are more willing to wait for you to get to them, but they also take the longest to eat and order. There are younger girls who are a tad more impatient than the old men, but they are still somewhat considerate.
Finally, we have the business women. We can only describe these women as cold and unfeeling. They want everything and they want it now. They will be quick and tip well if you can meet their expectations, though being able to do that is harder than it sounds.
There are ten levels per restaurant. Each time you pass a level you get something to either enhance the quality of the restaurant or to make your job easier. There are five restaurants in all. Even if you are good at this game it will still be a challenge. In the beginning it seems really easy, but it gets hard quicker than you imagine.
It hit me like a ton of bricks. Just when I thought I had it down, I was scrambling to do anything for anyone and people were leaving right and left.
|
When people leave it just makes things harder. In fact, you lose more money for every customer that leaves. Considering you need a certain amount of money to progress this makes things quite difficult. There are little things that are offered to appease your customers, such as a coffee machine to wet their palettes, and a podium to entertain them before they are able to sit down. However, both require extra steps that you may or may not have time for with the rush of customers. |
|
The podium is used to keep the guests entertained, which makes them happy while they are waiting. The downside is that your seated customers can get pretty angry waiting for you to make the podium people feel good.
The game play is fast, smooth, and well worth taking the time to play it. You can easily waste a few hours without even knowing where the time has gone. So, if you like challenging, casual games, then Diner Dash is definitely for you.
